Description
Satire on radical reformers. (British political cartoon); A satire on Francis Burdett's election as MP for Middlesex and his speech at the Crown and Anchor tavern afterwards critical of the government. Burdett leans from the window of the Crown and Anchor tavern, speaking to an audience of several sailors and volunteers, with one city gentleman and two working-class characters. He urges them not to submit to army or naval discipline. The title and speeches mention the name of Despard, who was executed for treason in 1803.; Attribution to Cruikshank from Krumbhaar; attribution to Williams from BMC. Krumbhaar 222
