"Photography is a love affair with life."

I have been taking pictures for years, and was instantly attracted to digital photography, even when the "memory card" consisted of a 3.5" floppy disk that held 5 or 6 images. My first serious digital camera was a Sony CyberShot, which, at 3.3 megapixel resolution, took some excellent pictures, due to a very nice Zeiss lens. This camera took ill upon being exposed to sea-spray in Hawai'i. Two other compact cameras proved unsatisfying. An Olympus Stylus performed decently (and is waterproof).

 

In 2010, when my divorce was final, I treated myself to a Canon Rebel DSLR, and I love it. Since then, photography has become ever more of a passion, much of it focusing on other passions in my life: nature and wildlife, rocks, outings with my son, Justin, and our pets. Themes related to Davis-local experiences and bicycling are also themes. More recently, I have also begun to explore my Slow Food sensibilities. Thanks to the Yolo County Art Council's Art & Ag (aka Art Farm) project, I recently had the opportunity to roam a local organic farm and shoot as I wanted.

 

I feel that my divorce was a major re-set in my life, at which time I rediscovered my own passions and realized that I am a creative individual. As such, the images shown on Flickr focus on this period. A few things from earlier periods may be uploaded periodically, but they are not the focus.

  

I love rock-hounding, lapidary work, visiting the beach (it is hard to beat the beauty of the the NorCal coast) and biking with my son.

 

I also enjoy cooking, reading, live music, and, of course, photography.

 

My favorite photographic subject include pretty feet, bees, dragonflies, food, rocks, flowers, food, barns and, well, life. Sometimes what captures my interest ins't classically pretty, but has more of a wabi-sabi appeal. Anyway, wander through my photostream, and see for yourself.
