The National 5 P.E. course is assessed in two parts. Portfolio tests your knowledge and understanding of the theoretical components of the course. Performance involves you being assessed in two different activities.

The questions used in the portfolio have different command words that test your knowledge and understanding in different ways. Understanding the command words will help you give the right type of answer.

Mental factors impact on performance and have associated features that can lead to positive or negative outcomes.

Emotional factors impact on performance and have associated features that can lead to positive or negative outcomes.

Social factors impact on performance and have associated features that can lead to positive or negative outcomes.

Physical factors impact on performance. Features of physical fitness, physical skills, tactics and composition can lead to positive or negative outcomes.

Setting goals and planning training will help develop the performance of an athlete. These skills will be used in developing different approaches in performance.

The influence of mental factors can be positive or negative. The approaches used to develop performance are specific to the factor and the activity.

The influence of emotional factors can be positive or negative. The approaches used to develop performance are specific to the factor and the activity.

The influence of social factors can be positive or negative. The approaches used to develop performance are specific to the factor and the activity.

The influence of physical factors can be positive or negative. The approaches used to develop performance are specific to the factor and the activity.

Knowing how to collect, analyse and draw appropriate conclusions from data, will help a performer decide on the best approaches for their training programme.

Feedback is needed to check performance progress and identify new development needs. This can be in the form of test results or observation schedules.

After considering and resolving any problems with their performance, the performer will display a range of movement and skills through two separate one-off activities. Performance in each activity is assessed against skill repertoire, control and fluency, cognitive skills, tactical understanding, rules and regulations and controlling emotions.
