Planet Earth III

BBC Studios Natural History Unit, co-produced with BBC America, ZDF and France Télévisions

BBC Studios is a world leader in operating sustainably both on and off screen.

Our programmes, such as the awe-inspiring Planet Earth III, Frozen Planet II and Earth support understanding of climate change and the importance of biodiversity, while partnerships such as that with Minecraft amplify our content.

We signed the Climate Content Pledge at COP26 committing to considering climate change across our programming and inspiring greener choices.

Offscreen, BBC Studios supports the delivery of the BBC Group’s Net Zero strategy, underpinned by science. We consider our travel, waste and buildings, work with our suppliers and licensees and ensure our UK productions have both albert footprints and carbon action plans.

In 2022/23, 98% of our UK productions had carbon action plans and many pioneered innovative solutions. Our Natural History Unit for example, is investing £1m over three years in a programme of initiatives to support the training and development of international filmmaking talent, enabling greater use of locally-based crews and reducing our carbon emissions.
