SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—The Springfield Police Department wants to give the community a unique opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a police officer through the Citizens Police Academy.

The program covers policies, organizational structure, investigative processes, and policing tactics. You will complete 30 hours of instruction over ten weeks. The goal is to give people a better understanding of how the police department works and an inside look at the challenges officers face on the job.

“It’s almost like an enhanced ride-along,” said Officer Brandon Locke of the Springfield Police Department. “You’ll be able to hear from our K9 section, our special response team, criminal investigations divisions, and some of our special investigation units. You’ll hear about our SPD history, and then we teach some classes on the operations of our patrol division and our equipment and procedures.”

The Citizens Police Academy meets every Tuesday beginning on August 6. To apply, CLICK HERE.
