WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Your First Alert Forecast continues with a toasty evening across the Lower Cape Fear Region. Lows will slowly fall below 80 degrees overnight with more 90s and stressful heat index values Thursday. Be alert for a higher 50% chance for a locally heavy storm late Thursday afternoon and early Thursday evening. Daily storm chances will sink to around a 30% baseline for Friday and June’s final weekend amid additional daily trips to the 90s. The early trends for Independence Day, which is next Thursday, continue to suggest sizzling deep 90s for much of the region.

In the tropics, new storm development is unlikely across the Atlantic Basin through midweek. A disturbance called Invest 94-L may develop in the western Caribbean Sea or southern Gulf of Mexico by week’s end. Invest 95-L is an African disturbance that carries medium odds for eastern Caribbean development in the same time frame. There are no definable threats to the Carolinas in any case. The next tropical storm names on the 2024 list are Beryl and Chris.
