SLED: Sumter police officer charged, accused of soliciting sex in exchange for money

SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A police officer at the Sumter Police Department (SPD) has been charged with misconduct in office after accused of soliciting sex in exchange for money, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

SLED charged Darren Lee McCain, 30, on Tuesday.

According to an arrest warrant, McCain made the solicitation by contacting multiple women whose contact information he got through his official capacity with SPD.

SLED said the crimes took place between 2022 and April 16, 2024.

The warrant also stated evidence was found on McCain’s cell phone.

McCain was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center following his arrest. The 3rd Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.

Officials said SPD requested the SLED investigation.
