JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A street in Jackson now bears the name of a legendary blues musician in Mississippi.

Bobby Rush was joined by his family, friends, and dignitaries Wednesday afternoon when the sign was unveiled for Bobby Rush Boulevard.

This comes after the Jackson City Council voted to rename part of Ellis Avenue for Rush.

The Grammy winner says he is very blessed to receive this honor.

“You are looking at the happiest man in the world right now,” Rush said. “For this city, for the fans, the city councilmen, and for everybody who was involved in doing this for me... [thank you]. This is where I’ve been, where I am, and where I plan to go. Thank you, thank you, thank you Mississippi.”

The stretch of the road named after Rush runs from Interstate 20 to West Capitol Street.
