Auburn High, Central girls advance in AHSAA 7A Area 4 tournament

AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - Auburn High School was the place to be Friday night. The first night of the 7A Area 4 tournament kicked off with the girls of Smiths Station vs. Central.

The Panthers found themselves down 42-18 at halftime, but managed to come back 56-49 with a minute remaining in the game. Jatayah Bryant hit two 3-pointers in the span of about 15 seconds and Jasmyn Thomas got an and-1 shot with 59 seconds left in the game. However, a basket from Central’s Danica Todd put the game away 58-50.

In the next game, the host team of Auburn High faced off against Opelika. The Bulldogs got on the board first with a layup from Tyra Pitts, and shortly after Daley Alsobrook tied it up for the Tigers. Brooke Hallman and Syriah Daniels helped their team pull away in the second quarter, and Auburn High went on to win 89-41.

The Lady Tigers and the Lady Red Devils will meet in the area championship game on Monday, Feb. 5.

Tomorrow night, the boys of 7A Area 4 will take the court. First, Central faces Opelika at 6 p.m. ET followed by Auburn and Smiths Station.
