GBIF—the Global Biodiversity Information Facility—is an international network and research infrastructure funded by the world’s governments and aimed at providing anyone, anywhere, open access to data about all types of life on Earth.

About GBIF:

* provides a single point of access to more than 1.3 billion records, shared freely by hundreds of institutions worldwide, making it the biggest biodiversity database on the Internet.
* The data accessible through GBIF relate to evidence about more than one million species, collected over three centuries of natural history exploration and including current observations from citizen scientists, researchers and automated monitoring programmes

Usage tips:

* to see state and country borders, click on the paint roller icon below the map, then select Streets.
* to see source of a specific data point, click on the map, scroll in, then click on the lower rightmost icon below the map (the pointer pointing at a circle), then click on the data point you want information about.
* the Metrics tab displays multiple occurrence data charts.
