Poland’s Millennium Docs Against Gravity has put out the call for films for its 20th edition, running May 12-21 2023 in Polish cinemas and May 23 – June 4 online.

For competition sections, the festival is looking for films of over 45 minutes duration which would receive their Polish premiere. The deadline for submissions  is January 31 2023.

“Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is the largest film festival in Poland and one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world,” say organisers. “It is the only film festival in Europe which takes place in eight different cities at the same time – Warsaw, Gdynia, Wrocław, Lublin, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Poznań and, starting in 2022, Łódź.”

The May 2022 edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity, which is a European Film Awards-qualifying festival, programmed 192 non-fiction films, garnering a Poland-wide audience of more than 138,000.

“Thanks to Millennium Docs Against Gravity, watching documentary films became popular in Poland, and they arouse wide audience interest ever since, which is the result of a consequently developed, attractive festival programme,” the organisers add.

Millennium Docs Against Gravity is a co-founder and a member of the Doc Alliance network, which brings together seven key European documentary film festivals: CPH:DOX Copenhagen, DOK Leipzig, IDFF Jihlava, FID Marseille, Visions du Réel Nyon, Doclisboa and Millennium Docs Against Gravity.
