Award winning director, DoP and TV author Edoardo Anselmi and producer Carlo Ghiani last week pitched their new non-fiction project at Rome’s MIA, a TV one-off titled Banksy and The Sad Girl (La ragazza triste di Banksy). The film follows the rescue of the titular contemporary icon and promises to explore the impact of street art today.

The exploration of Earth’s orbit takes centre stage in Blue Sphere, a science-fiction docuseries project pitched at the MIA market in Rome last week. Within an epic that follows space pioneers over several generations, director Jérôme Bernard will invite experts to discuss the human and technological challenges that arise from the conquest of the environment beyond our atmosphere.

Over 2400 participants from 60 countries attended the Rome-based international audiovisual market which ran 11 to 15 October 2022 in the Palazzo Barberini and Cinema Barberini. The event generated million views on Twitter while MIA's facebook page followers grew by 27%, Linkedin by 23%. The event hosted more than 70 panels and events.

RAI joins Global Doc Initiative, teams up with France Télévisions on nuclear fusion project

Italian pubcaster RAI announced October 12 its decision to join the likes of ZDF, Channel 4 and SVT in the Global Doc Initiative, and unveiled details of a new project on nuclear fusion, to be co-produced with France Télévisions. Both announcements were made at the MIA market, running October 11-15 in Rome, during an event moderated by the MIA Deputy Director and Head of Doc & Factual Marco Spagnoli.

These projects come from 10 countries. Additionally, the event's new B2B Exchange Program is designed to support the Ukrainian audiovisual industry. Plus the MIA Buyers’ Club returns. The Rome market runs October 11-15.

Gaia Tridente named new director of MIA (Rome)

Formerly head of Mercato Internazionale dell'Audiovisivo’s Scripted Division, Tridente succeeds Lucia Milazzotto as overall director of MIA, whose eighth edition will be held in Rome from 11 to 15 October 2022. “My ambition is to produce a high-quality new edition of MIA, representing a turning point that will meet the needs of the global industry’ ecosystem and bringing content in all its formats and genres at the centre of the market," she says.
