The IDFA Bertha Fund is now accepting submissions for IBF Classic, the flagship grant program that supports documentary projects in development or (post-)production with up to €7,500 and €25,000 respectively per project.

Additionally, selected filmmakers will receive tailored support from IDFA’s Filmmaker Support department and opportunities for connecting with IDFA’s professional network year-round.

The next submission deadline is June 10. The second deadline of 2023 is December 10.

For this funding scheme, the Fund is looking to support “a new slate of creative documentary projects that use a strong visual approach to tell compelling stories and have the potential to reach a global audience,” say organisers.

Doc project submissions must be from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, or the Caribbean to be considered (see the IBF Classic Country List).

Eligible filmmakers can submit their documentary project in one of two categories:

  • Project development: The maximum contribution for project development is  €7,500, which must be spent in a country on the IBF Classic Country List.
  • Production & post-production: The maximum contribution for production & post-production is €25,000, which must be spent in a country on theIBF Classic Country List.
