THE ROLE

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced drama Line Producer or Production Manager? Are you looking for a fresh challenge which requires a creative balance of high editorial ambition, delivery requirements, people, finances, wellbeing and value for money.

 

We’re keen to hear from Line Producers and Production Managers interested in working on our cosy crime titles; Sister Boniface Mysteries, Father Brown, and Shakespeare and Hathaway.

 

From green light to delivery, our production management teams are the glue that hold our shows together. Working closely with the Production Exec and Exec Producer, we look for people who enjoy leading teams and working strategically and collaboratively to realise ambitious creative vision. We’re want to work with Line Producers and Production Managers who bring knowledge and expertise from previous drama productions – but also an excitement and openness to adopt new ways of working, processes and systems.

 

Entertaining loyal fan-bases across the UK and USA, our series are set and produced from the rolling hills and history steeped streets of Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds. With up to 10 episodes per series, multiple locations, a 17 week shoot, these shows provide an excellent platform for production management talent to showcase and stretch their skills.

 

This is an opportunity to express your interest in working as a Line Producer on our cosy crime titles. We don't have a live opportunity at the moment, but might do soon, so we're keen identify potential candidates. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Take a lead in balancing creative aspirations with financial and resource constraints. Understand editorial ambitions of the programme and offer cost effective solutions.
  • Draft, negotiate and manage overall production plans/schedules and operational logistics, identifying effective use of staff and resources and advising on alternative approaches, facilities and suppliers as appropriate within budgetary constraints
  • Take the lead on driving forward any strategies on new ways of working for a BBC Drama including changes arising from new technology, development of multiplatform content and media asset management
  • Ensure successful delivery of programmes to budget and schedule without sacrificing creative integrity through effective planning, monitoring and control of the production
  • Ensure the production team understands and carries out responsibilities for ensuring all programmes meet copyright, legal, commercial rights, metadata management and delivery requirements, etc
  • Build, lead, motivate and inspire a team of production management staff and all other direct reports, setting objectives that support the strategic aims for the Production support
  • Ensure the Production complies with all BBC policies and guidelines, including upholding Editorial Values, compliance with Health and Safety regulations, and employment policies.

Are you the right candidate?

In a fast changing production environment, the ideal candidate will be able to: 

  • Work strategically, using lateral thinking and quick decision making skills, challenging assumptions and developing and driving forward new ways of working.  
  • Demonstrate motivational and inspirational leadership for production colleagues and to maintain a creative and collaborative culture. 
  • Have a strong track record of production managing or line producing in television drama with wide experience of reconciling artistic aspiration with financial constraint 
  • Plan and revising large production budgets and schedules and to deliver programmes on time and within budget. 
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the production process, including studio/location, live/pre-recorded processes, craft roles and facility/technical requirements.
  • Have a sound knowledge of internal and external resource and facilities markets and market costs and has sufficient knowledge to assess competence of contractors/suppliers to meet BBC requirements. 
  • Utilise experience of recruiting, leading, managing and motivating production teams 
  • An enthusiasm and interest in BBC Drama Production.

**Please note that this is a standard Studios Production contract and potentially can involve up to 55 hrs per week **
