These were made "circa 1922", after 1922 or at an unknown point. Unless published before 1923, the paintings are protected by copyright in the United States for 95 years since publication.

A couple of these (File:Theo van Doesburg Counter-composition X early state.jpg, File:Theo van Doesburg Counter-composition VIII 2.jpg and File:Theo van Doesburg Contra-composition XVI 2.jpg) have been published early (1925 and 1926). Could you nominate these separately, so that they can be undeleted in 2020 and 2021? Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 17:35, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry guys, i don't get this at all. Theo van Doesburg died in 1931, so clearly has been dead for more than 70 years. All his works are in the PD in countries that support the PD+70 rule, and on Commons we accept photographic reproductions of those works as being PD too. I don't know what this whole URAA act has to do with it at all. Would you be kind to explain to me what i missed in any rule changes on Commons? There are many photographic reproductions that should be removed as well because it's unclear if they have been published before 1923. Husky (talk to me) 22:08, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The files have to be in the public domain in both the United States and the source country. In the source country, they are all in the public domain since the painter died more than 70 years ago. However, in the United States, the copyright term is different: 95 years since publication. These paintings were first published less than 95 years ago, so they are not yet in the public domain in the United States. --Stefan4 (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Delete A more complete explanation for Husky: if a work was first published in the Netherlands by an artist who died 1926 or later, it was still in copyright in the Netherlands on the 1996 URAA date. Consequently, the URAA restored its US copyright for a period lasting until 95 years after the date of publication. The URAA did not restore works published before 1923 regardless, so only those published 1923 or later need to be deleted. All works can be transferred to Wikilivres.
