Photographing Norways cultural heritage

Wiki Loves Monuments (http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org) is an annual international photography contest and crowdsourcing event in which participants photograph and upload images of historic monuments to Wikimedia Commons. These images are then available for free use on Wikipedia and beyond. More details can be found at Wiki Loves Monuments 2014. The competition takes place throughout September.

The Norwegian part of this year's contest will focus specifically on cultural heritage. There is no requirement for participants or volunteers to be from Norway. The Norwegian part of the competition is volunteer-led, with significant support from our local WMF chapter, Wikimedia Norge and Riksantikvaren (The Directorate for Cultural Heritage).

Have you taken heritages photos in Norway?

edit

There are three simple rules if you take part in Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 with images from Norway:

  1. Upload your image/s in a free license at Wikimedia Commons in September.
  2. The image might be taken at any time, but it has to be your own and must not have been uploaded to Commons before.
  3. The image has to portray a registered cultural heritage site in Norway.

At Norwegian (Bokmål) Wikipedia, there is a dedicated website to the competition.

About the contest

edit

Template:WLM-NO 2014 links Wiki Loves Monuments in Norway will follow the same rules as the international competition. Participants upload pictures taken by themselves of listed cultural heritage within Norway and Svalbard and upload them to Wikimedia Commons during the month of September under a free license. Uploaded photographs do not have to be taken during September 2014, but they must not have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before. Participants are free to take photographs of any eligible cultural heritage (a list will be provided), even if Commons already has one or more photographs, but of course a new angle or a new detail is more useful to the project than simply repeating what has been done before.

The list of cultural heritage eligible for the competition is largely based on the Kulturminnesøk database maintained by Riksantikvaren. And photographs have to be tagged with an Kulturminnesøk ID number unique for that listed cultural heritage site. Your photos will add to the collection in the relevant Commons category.

See the results at the page of the Norwegian jury, here.
