:::As for your new Albania flag: it's a perfect example of what we're after! The only thing I could think of adding would be a drop shadow, offset down 1/2 pixel and right 1/2 pixel. (All quantities are in terms of the default rendering size of 60x60.) I can't wait to show these to relevant Wikipedia WikiProjects.

First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines

Hello!

Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, category(ies), optionaly gallery(ies), or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on the Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. EugeneZelenko 14:35, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please add flag icons to Falgs of <country> categories. For example to Category:Flags of Bulgaria. --EugeneZelenko 14:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The flags are here, actually: Commons:Project Nuvola 2.0+

Thank you very much for the flag! ManecoWifi 15:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nuvola 2.0+ flags

Your flags for Nuvola 2.0+ are a great start, and it's excellent that you've done so many so fast, but they don't quite match the style of the original Nuvola PNG flags.

Many of the colours should be lighter and more saturated; all blue, white, yellow, red and green should ideally match that in the four flags above. As well, the lighting is backwards: the lightest point of shading should be right of center, not left. (Try just reversing the directions of all the gradients.) Also, parts of the inner border (not the outer grey one) that touch blue, red or green should be darker than the region they touch. How much work would it be to fix these issues? Seahen 19:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re your response on my talk page: I don't think a government can realistically expect the digital representation of a flag to be in exactly its original colours, given (a) that different monitors will render the same colour differently, and (b) we're using gradients rather than solid colours. As for the Netherlands/Luxembourg issue, I suggest adjusting only the luminosity when a darker or lighter blue is needed, while leaving the hue the same and the saturation at maximum. I also think it might be easier to keep a colour fully saturated if the shading were part of the flag rather than an overlay, because in the latter case you're often adding both black and white to a colour when it's not necessary to add either. Seahen 20:13, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, a note on fine detail: Nuvola icons are generally made to be clearly visible at small sizes and show only as much detail as can be shown in 128x128 pixels. Thus, I'd suggest removing some of the stars from the Brazilian flag and enlarging the remaining ones; also, when you're doing the US flag, I wouldn't try to fit all fifty stars on it. (If you really want to make a true-to-life rendering of the flag, you can always make two versions of the icon.) Seahen 20:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Retract the above comment: after I thought about it, I remembered some Nuvola icons other than flags (such as ) have equally fine detail that also doesn't render at low resolutions, so simplifying the flags would be a stylistic departure that we're trying not to make. Still, I think the outside border on each charge should be thickened up to a full pixel, as should any fimbrillations that aren't already that thick.
As for your new Albania flag: it's a perfect example of what we're after! The only thing I could think of adding would be a drop shadow, offset down 1/2 pixel and right 1/2 pixel. (All quantities are in terms of the default rendering size of 60x60.) I can't wait to show these to relevant Wikipedia WikiProjects.
BTW, what software do you use to make these flags? Do you do them all one-by-one or do you have a batch script? Seahen 03:06, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Given that you've got the original shading down so amazingly, and I haven't, I wouldn't mind at all if you were to overwrite the flags I did with your versions. Seahen 03:10, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
