Per Commons:Deletion requests/File:DOTA-logo-wis.png, to a degree. See also recently opened Commons:Deletion requests/File:Year of Luigi logo.png. This is a fan alteration of a copyrighted NVidia logo, where the NVidia logo portion has been removed and recognized as being copyrightable. However, my view is two fold: 1) It remains a derivative of a copyrighted logo, with no license from Nvidia. 2) It is a false representation of the logo for this product, and therefore any use is a deceptive use. This image is being presented on an enwiki category, where NFCC content is forbidden. If this altered logo is valid for Commons, however, then the past revisions that contain the copyrightable portion of the NVidia logo need to be deleted. -- ferret (talk) 16:41, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete It is a deceptive modification of the original logo. Either the original should be used under Fair Use or not at all. Zxcvbnm (talk) 19:06, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The "false representation" aspect is the most troubling to me. I had no inkling that this wasn't the official logo until you pointed it out, and I suspect most lay readers will believe that as well. It may be true that no part of this image is copyrightable (I am not a lawyer, so I don't know if this is "illegally derivative" or whatever), but even if kept, I would never use it in any article space because of the false representation aspect. •  Keep. None of the above are valid reasons for deletion. The file is in use across multiple projects. Is the logo too simple for copyright? Given that NVidia is a US company and the US threshold for originality is high, I would say that it is absolutely {{PD-textlogo}}. IronGargoyle (talk) 21:43, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't the logo for GeForce Now though. It's part of the logo, with the copyrightable portion removed, which prior Commons deletion discussions have determined should be deleted as above TOO. So that means the uses on project are false representation. The project should not encourage this. -- ferret (talk) 18:03, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Commons does not make editorial decisions for other projects. If an image is being used in good faith on any project, it is within scope (see COM:INUSE). IronGargoyle (talk) 19:17, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep. Concur that this is absolutely PD-textlogo/simple. None of the elements here are copyrightable. What the English Wikipedia decides to do is within those editors' discretion but it doesn't affect how and what Commons hosts. czar 00:00, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: Clearly PD-textlogo. The decision of whether or not to use it in a project because it's not the original is not the concern of Commons. howcheng {chat} 18:55, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
