This picture of Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq (Pakistan president) is claimed to be public domain because there is nothing in it of original authorship. This is cleanly not true as it is a photo of a person. COM:CRT/Pakistan indicates government works are copyrighted for a period of 50 years which for this image from 1985 would expire in 2035. There is no indication or evidence that this image is an exception to government copyright. Whpq (talk) 12:44, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. This photo was used for many public purposes, including display in government buildings, fulfilling autograph requests, etc. It was intended for the widest possible dissemination, not restricted use. Billmckern (talk) 12:53, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Widely distributed, and displayed does not mean a work is free of copyright. There are many images widely distributed that are copyrighted, the prime example being photos sent out as part of press releases. Whpq (talk) 17:27, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
