A stuffed white stork with an arrow protruding from its neck. This specimen, collected in northern Germany in 1822, provided direct evidence of stork migration. The arrow is made from a tropical hardwood and was not fatal to the bird; wounded, it was able to migrate from Africa with the arrow still embedded in its neck.
