| Description |
An antique gilded wall clock found in one of the long corridors of this historical church. When one speaks of the Carmelite Church in Mdina one cannot forget the historical tradition attached to it. A popular story connects this church to the Maltese uprising against the French soldiers who were at that time occupying Malta (1798-1800). It is said that on the 2nd September 1798 the French tried to take awat the church treasures and sell them by auction. Tradition says that some children seeing the soldiers bent on despoiling the church ran up and stsrted ringing the bells which was taken as a sign of danger. The infuriated populace soon turned into a riot and kicked the French soldiers but not before the latter had despoiled the church of some relics, namely the golden crown which adorned the image of Our Lady of Carmel behind the main altar.
