Summary
[edit]DescriptionI found it unusual that the deer venture so close to the sea (49495698477).jpg | Finding nothing from groups on the beach (one group jumped up in fear and another one pushed him away), the Sika deer on Miyajima island then moves on to try his luck elsewhere. I found it unusual that the deer venture so close to the sea. These Sika deer are on Miyajima island near Hiroshima, where the UNESCO World Heritage listed Itsukushima shine is located. (see previous pictures and detailed notes earlier in this album). These Sika deer are considered sacred in Shinto Buddhism as one of their bodhisatavas is said to have come here riding a white deer. However many people have expressed their concern at these deer losing their fear of humans and associating them with food. (see previous pictures earlie rin this album). I found it unusual that the deer venture so close to the sea, but they are actually looking out for scraps or handouts from the many visitors on the beach. A brief video of one of these deer bothering a family on a beach appeared just before this. (see previous picture- my Facebook viewers will find this clip in the Videos folder under my profile).
