sir Neill hade däremot tvenne leoparder. Hugo, den femte
earlen of Eglinton, använde 1598 tvä drakar, sir Robert af Skel-
morly 1704 tvenne leoparder. Löfverk eller hjälmtäcke, rätteli-
gen rödt, fordradt med silfver.1
Släkten Montgomerys allmänna valspråk har »Garde
bien», men några grenar hafva anlagt afvikande deviser, såsom
»Honneur sans Repos» (Montalexander), »Tout bien ou rien» (Skel-
morly), »Patriae infelici fidelisv (Beaulieu), »Procedamus in Pace»
(Broomlands) samt »Constans in Morte» (adl.-ätten Montgomery
[B] vid sidan af »Garde bien»).
Slutligen torde böra anmärkas att i senaste tid namnet Mont-
gomery — i likhet med andra ätters, t. ex. Bruce, Campbell,
Hamilton och Stewart — upptagits af ett flertal personer i Amerika,
hvilka icke hafva något samband med den skotska ätten.

Två von Schwerinska familjetaflor

En stor del af de karrikatyrer och familjeporträtt, som teck-
nats och målats af Fritz von Daniel ha blifvit reproducerade i
hans minnen. Det torde därför ha ett visst intresse att här åter-
gifva en af honom synnerligen väl utförd familjeinteriör från 1840-
talet, som icke förut blifvit publicerad och som är synnerligen
typisk för 1840-talet med dess egendomliga moder. Den ar sig-
nerad »Fritz von Daniel april 1842» och föreställer adjutanten
hos Carl XV öfversten grefve C. P/t. von Schiverin med maka
född Liljencrantz och deras 10 barn i deras bostad på Norrtulls
gatan (ä den tomt, som för närvarande äges af Allmänna Barn-
huset) (Taflans storlek är 40 x 27 cm.). Deras yngste som
sitter i moderns knä föddes året efter sedan taflan målats och
har ditmålats efteråt sedan taflan var fullbordad. Taflan tillhör
undertecknad.
