Description |
These pomanders were designed to hold either powder or solid perfume in the form of wax. The fragrances of certain herbs and materials( for example, rosemary, musk and cloves) were believed to have medicinal properties and in particular to give protecction against infection from 'corruption of the air'. Men wore pomanders suspended from a chain around their neck while women attached them to their belts. Wellcome Images |
