    Deepfakes – realistic-looking media content altered or generated using AI – are becoming increasingly prevalent. A recent survey by Bitkom revealed that nearly half of Germans (44%) have fallen for deepfakes, and 60% see them as a threat to democracy. Politicians and companies share these concerns, with the EU calling on tech giants to explain their strategies to combat fake material. In June, UNICEPTA and its innovation hub Ubermetrics, part of the news-polygraph alliance, discussed these issues with Bayer AG, a company that is proactively and innovatively addressing the risks of deepfakes. The news-polygraph is an AI research project aimed at developing a technology platform that identifies targeted fake news and deepfakes. Experts from Fraunhofer IDMT and Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI), both also part of the news-polygraph project, joined UNICEPTA representatives Jakob Tesch and Philipp Hanas in their meeting with Bayer. They presented cutting-edge techniques for identifying disinformation, including advanced audio analysis tools. Bayer will be granted API access to these tools, allowing them to test and deploy synthesis detection on their materials As Jakob Tesch summarized: "Both sides found the exchange very helpful." The insights gained will help shape future verification tools and prepare for a potential market entry.     Reconnecting in Shanghai: strengthening global ties and #innovation. We recently had the opportunity to visit our Chinese colleagues. Not many might know, but UNICEPTA has a thriving subsidiary in Shanghai. The team, led by Managing Director Rong Wang, focuses on delivering cutting-edge #mediainsights and #liveanalytics to our customers in the APAC market, navigating the complexities of a challenging media landscape. For the first time since COVID, our CEOs Sebastian Rohwer and Alexander Peinemann experienced the vibrant and, at times, overwhelming (at least for us Europeans) city of Shanghai, which now houses an almost surreal 25 million residents. During our three-day visit, the team engaged in numerous workshops aimed at further enhancing our services and products. “Naturally, we also used this opportunity to meet with some of our Chinese clients and exchange ideas on how to further strengthen our cooperation in the future,” concludes Sebastian Rohwer.     Last Friday we left solid ground behind and set sail. An unforgettable start to the #Europameisterschaft aboard the “Achterdeck”! The event ship and houseboat in the south of Cologne right on the banks of the Rhine boasts breathtaking views of the Cologne Cathedral. UNICEPTAs from our various offices across Europe had the pleasure of celebrating our annual summer party at this truly unique location, meeting many familiar faces. In a time when many of us work primarily remote and our teams are spread across various locations, it is always special to come together live and in person. Another highlight of the evening was of course the start of the #EURO2024⚽️. We got to celebrate the 5-1 victory over Scotland on the dancefloor until Achterdeck closed its doors around 3 AM 💪.
