Miller is the son of sharecropper Abraham Miller and Algena Leger.<ref name="swle" /> He and his son Mike published a book in 1988 called 'You Can Play Cajun Accordion: Designed For Beginners.'<ref name="flattown">{{cite web|url=http://www.floydsrecordshop.com/You-Can-Play-Cajun-Accordion-by-Larry-Miller-Mike-Miller-P1090.aspx|title=You Can Play Cajun Accordion by Larry Miller & Mike Miller (Book & CD)|accessdate=2011-08-13}}</ref> Miller didn't begin to build accordions until he was 52 years old in 1988.<ref name="swle" /> Before he worked in primary and secondary education for 22 years.<ref name="swle" /> He was also one of the founders of the [[Cajun French Music Association]].<ref name="swle" /> Miller retired from building accordions full-time in 2006.
