In fiction, robots often speak in a monotonous voice stripped of all prosodic elements. This was especially common when I was a child, let's say around 1990. Of course even then, speech synthesis had progressed much further than that. But have there been historical speech robots, like the computers in the Bell Lab, that talked like that?
