Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Amorymeltzer (talk | contribs) at 18:47, 22 April 2019 (→‎Danny Masterson: Semi-protected 8 days). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: UPE user 'Acrosstheriver21' was blocked in 2021 after making COI edits to this article. Since then a series of Northern Italian based IP addresses have been editing this article in a disruptive fashion. Statements by the user on the relevant IP talk pages indicate that this is the same user, evading the block. Disruption continues and, since the film will shortly be released, further disruption can be expected. Some form of page protection would seem preferable to playing IP whack-a-mole. Further detail can be found in the relevant discussion at WP:COIN Axad12 (talk) 05:36, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Regarding the issue above…
Given the similarity of other interests (articles relating to the Raikes family and vandalism of the page for Will Johns[1]) it would seem to be plausible that the user involved above is the same as the one involved in this sockpuppet investigation[2].
If so, the user is a veteran of at least 8 different blocked accounts and 2 blocked IP addresses.
Maybe also worth protecting the articles for Will Johns (to stop vandalism), and Raikes, Raymond Raikes and Geoffrey Raikes (to dissuade against block evasion via IP addresses)? Axad12 (talk) 09:45, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
+1 This has been happening for a long time. Across the River and into the Trees should also be protected. See WP:COIN#Across the River and into the Trees (film). C F A 💬 15:52, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Wiki-battle over the last several days including what appears to be a death threat, against the backdrop of extreme tension in Bangladesh. I suggest that protecting the page until the situation calms down would be helpful. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 05:36, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Long-term vandalism by IPs, for years as far as I remember relating to a point on involvement of Pakistani general. Makeandtoss (talk) 09:11, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

you are aware that there are editors with opinions that different than yours yes?
why not talk and get to the middle ground?
its seams that the edits the IP user have made were resalable sine Pakistan iniid provide financial aid.
could you please elaborate why is it important to you to censor this fact? 109.66.110.43 (talk) 13:15, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 21:29, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Repeat tendentious behaviour by an alleged sockpuppet currrently under investigation (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Wisdom-inc‎. Multiple editors have reverted his/her additions, so it's not simply a disagreement with one editor. 10mmsocket (talk) 15:35, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Checking to see if protection is necessary. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:11, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      User(s) blocked. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:16, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:16, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – anon IP jumper has been reverted by several of us multiple times. Perhaps a week of protection will stop the issue. It's not an article that is edited a heap. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:18, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. @Fyunck(click): Please try to make greater efforts to explain these types of reversions in your edit summaries. Thank you. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 20:01, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My fault there. In defense this hopping IP is doing this to multiple Disney articles over the last month and my patience is waning. Check out the Winnie the Pooh movies where i told them "Bring it to talk... this is like all other disney animated features". Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:08, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended protection: Updating quickly - vandalism very likely. Also, aren't all 2024 Election-related Articles protected? Avishai11 (talk) 19:51, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. This is premature. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:55, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: False information about it was Posted today. Want page protected before that information is brought back/any more misinformation is brought in. 2600:6C46:6800:21F8:A1A4:41BB:F7D9:A371 (talk) 19:58, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. One drive-by vandal edit isn't enough for protection. Acroterion (talk) 20:00, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The vandalism was inaccurate information. This page NEEDS to be protected so none happens again. 2600:6C46:6800:21F8:A1A4:41BB:F7D9:A371 (talk) 21:00, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We don't protect articles over a single incident. If we did that, almost every article would be protected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 22:19, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Page has a history of disruptive editing/vandalism by IPs. Also it's a contentious topic as per WP:CT/IPA Wikibear47 (talk) 20:06, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended protection: All 2024 U.S. Presidential campaigns are protected (most have Extended). Harris announced she is running for POTUS, so her campaign's page should be protected. If not extended, then at least Semi. Avishai11 (talk) 20:19, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Random ips deleting sourced content without knowing what either 'de facto' or 'de jure' means. Single user on multiple ips vandalising the page. This could turn into an edit war. Lamensi (talk) 08:03, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Indefinite full protection is fairly extreme and would mean that only administrators would be able to edit the page. It is typically used as a last resort and even then temporarily. I am curious why you think that this is warranted in this case Harryman2019? --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:03, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: BLP policy violations – BLP violations started again once protection expired. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:14, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. While the length may seem longer than usual, this behaviour resumed after a 1 month protection. Let's see if 3 will do the trick. Hopefully indefinite protection does not need to occur, but we shall cross that bridge when we come to it. Thanks for reporting here Justlettersandnumbers --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:07, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. They are constantly increasing Kobe's stats and achievements. Mazewaxie 09:29, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

there is a typo in the word "legitamate" in the latest change, change from: "'The concept of the Intifada, which contains the idea of a legitimate protest against oppression, is currently a key concept in the Arab world and has a great emotional appeal'"

    to

"'The concept of the Intifada, which contains the idea of a rebellion against oppression, is currently a key concept in the Arab world and has a great emotional appeal'" it should be removed (or replaced it with the word "violent")

Not done – This edit consists of a literal translation of a reference. While I am not fluent in German, nothing in the text indicates that it should translate with the word "violent". The reference contains the German word "legitimen", meaning "legitimate". By my reading, the translation made in this edit is correct. Garsh (talk) 19:19, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to request that... (We are able to take all the hearsay out of this Article. I have been watching her videos on youtube and a lot of the information she is providing is basic and extremely healthy. Any doctor whos ever prescribed anything could be classified as doing something extremely dangerous.. look at america atm.. nothing wrong with barbara. Clean this page up please. Btw she said for me to use castor oil on my dermatitis and it worked, 20 years of nothing working that doctors and dermatologist perscribed and here i am, my serrabhorbic dermatitis and rosacea have gotten better) . 114.30.104.246 (talk) 19:37, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{Pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Example (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) your request here. ~~~~
