"Complimentary close" confused with "Validiction"

[edit]

Yours truly,--Ludvikus 13:04, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From the american heritage dictionary:

complimentary close (klōz) pronunciation
n.
Words, such as Yours truly, that appear at the end of a letter and just before the writer's signature, used as a polite termination of the letter.
val·e·dic·tion (văl'ĭ-dĭk'shən) pronunciation
n.
1. An act of bidding farewell; a leave-taking.
2. A speech or statement made as a farewell.
3. A word or phrase of farewell used to end a letter or message.
[From Latin valedictus, past participle of valedīcere, to say farewell : valē, farewell; see vale2 + dīcere, to say.]

Please remove all Valediction matter from this article

[edit]

There is a separate article for it. Yours truly, --Ludvikus 13:16, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, especially since most material seems to be copied wholesale from the same. On a separate note, I don't feel this article is a stub, even with the removal of the valediction material, but if you disagree, please use {{vocab-stub}}. Thanks, Jeodesic 23:34, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to Valediction

[edit]

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that a complimentary close is basically a kind of valediction. From Dictionary.co.uk: Valediction: A word or phrase of farewell used to end a letter or message. along with other meanings like the act of farewell. In contrast, CC has a more narrow meaning. Interestingly, most of this article is copied (or stolen? XD) from Valediction. With most of its content taken away to here, the valediction article can't exist by itself. However, since Valediction has wider meaning than CC, it is inappropriate to redirect Valediction to here either. Complimentary close, however, could be incorporated into the valediction article. So I am suggesting a redirect. Da Vynci (talk) 00:55, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting I had not noticed Valediction this was certainly a WP:BOLD move and I like it. -- RP459 Talk/Contributions 03:25, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! It is done. Da Vynci (talk) 22:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
