Adam Hills (born in Sydney in 1970) is an Australian comedian. He began his career in 1989 as a stand-up comedian at the Sydney Comedy Store, however, he did not become well-known until moving to England and working there. It was later that he became well known in Australia after his successful appearances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Hills studied a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) at Macquarie University, graduating in 1991.

He has since appeared on comedy programs such as Rove Live and The Glass House and currently hosts his own popular music trivia show called Spicks and Specks. In 2003, Adam scored a minor hit with Working Class Anthem, in which he sang the lyrics of the Australian National Anthem to the tune of Working Class Man, a famous song by iconic Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes. Hills has performed this song several times on television, including once on Spicks and Specks, when Barnes was a guest on the program.

Personal life

Hills usually resides in Melbourne, Australia, but since his Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Spicks and Specks filming commitments ended, relocated to the United Kingdom. His girlfriend is Australian opera singer Ali McGregor. Hills was born without a right foot and, in his own words, "nobody really knows why". He wears an artificial right foot. He removed it for all to see on Mock the Week in October 2006 and also August 2007; and in The Glass House in 2004, performing an impression of the Terminator, and revealed it to the audience of the 2007 Logie Awards, (where he made fun of his disability in front of the audience). He is a huge fan of English musician Adam Ant.

Go You Big Red Fire-Engine

"Go You Big Red Fire-Engine" Is a phrase that was coined during Adam Hills' stand-up comedy show My Own Little World in Melbourne, Australia in 1999. Hills invited onstage a member of the audience who was supposed to come out to great applause, shout his name and occupation to more cheers and applause. Instead he strode on, punched the air and shouted 'Go you big red fire engine!' Initially the audience didn't react, but after the phrase was repeated, they began to chant along. Within minutes the whole crowd were on their feet, shouting it out and clapping.

Adam Hills named his 2001 comedy show Go You Big Red Fire Engine, which played at the 2001 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was nominated for the prestigious Perrier Comedy Award. It was an international tour in 2002, and in 2004 Go You Big Red Fire Engine 2: Judgement Day played in Edinburgh.

Hills is touring Australia in 2007, with his new show 'Joymonger.'

He often has a sign language interpreter present at his shows.

Live in the Suburbs

In 2006 Hills recorded his live stand-up DVD at the Pakenham Cultural Centre. There are extras on the DVD which feature, a rip on Pakenham Upper with an excavator shown for sale, and has an interview with the towns only store's manager "Beau" about the beauty of Pakenham Upper, Watch Clip on Youtube. Hills also visit the weekend Pakenham Farmers Market interviewing the people of Pakenham.
