Route 211 was introduced in 1993 and from then it has never changed, starting from Hammersmith and finishing at Waterloo and back again, via Victoria, Sloane Square, Chelsea and Fulham. It came from route 511, which is started in 25 May 1991, and it only run from Waterloo to Victoria. It was extended via route 11 and the withdrawn part all the way to Hammersmith.

Travel London gained the contract of the route in 1998, using brand new low-floor Optare Excel single-deckers at the new Silverthorne Road; Limebourne bought Travel London in 2000 and Connex bought Limebourne in 2001 at the garage and because of the congestion zone, Connex bought band new [Alexander ALX400]] bodied Dennis Trident 2s to convert the 211 into double-deck route.
