Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Tim Pierce (talk | contribs) at 15:58, 10 July 2021 (→‎Abby Jimenez (writer): Requesting semi-protection of Abby Jimenez (writer).). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Comment User:Flix11 - for now I've rangeblocked 120.22.192.0/18 and 120.22.0.0/18 as they appeared to be the same user as from the 14.202.22.14 range, but a concern has been raised at my talk page by User:Future Perfect at Sunrise as to whether or not this is disruption. Can I get some clarification? Pinging User:Materialscientist who blocked 14.202.22.14 for the same thing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:13, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ohnoitsjamie, the Scientist has pings turned off. You'll need to go to their talk page, unfortunately. Sdrqaz (talk) 01:16, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I just semi-protected the following for one year per requests above: Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/Charts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia and Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. They are the same as here, namely frequent IP edits where the IPs are blocked with a claim of socking of an identified indeffed user. Normally I would have queried the protection requests as I don't see where the IP edits are reverted or discussed, but in my mind WP:COVIDDS and the frequency of the edits makes a sufficient case for protection. Perhaps the more fundamental question should be asked: @Flix11: Are the IP edits wrong or is this a case of WP:DENY? Are the edits discussed anywhere? Johnuniq (talk) 01:44, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like those IPs are suspected of being Javito1993, whose first unblock request was denied here. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:45, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – That user came back to resume adding Sony Pictures to the article. FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 02:29, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Single user involved in an edit war, does not justify protection. Warn the user appropriately, and/or report to WP:AIV or WP:AN/EW (especially considering the personal attacks in the edit summaries). - Adolphus79 (talk) 02:35, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like that same user has edited from several different ranges over the last few months. I blocked the current IP. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:59, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes protection This is a heavily sensitive page (heavy internet harassment), the French version has recurrent vandalism (and is semi-protected) and the English page was just created. Indefinite extended confirmed protection – continous disruptive editing. I am getting tired of this issue. It's been more than a month since it started and I've already filed one ANI report and three page protection requests including this one. Just protect the page, please. For more detail check the following: Talk:Wallachia#Flag, second report here, first report here. Note my second report was rejected because the user stopped editing after receiving a warning in their talk page, but that changed. Super Ψ Dro 15:10, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Queen Mary 2

    Reason: Semi-protection no longer needed as Wikipedia:General sanctions/COVID-19 editing restrictions lifted. 49.150.14.10 (talk) 06:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I request to reduce the protection of the page. I would like to update quite a bit of content with references. I've posted on the talk page about updating a whole section attaching official references and no one seems to notice it. I think vandalism protection was increased but it's been a stable page for over a month now. Panenkazo (talk) 10:28, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined See Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests; there are plenty of older, open edit requests. So have a little patience please, we are all volunteers here. Lectonar (talk) 10:45, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia:Non-discrimination policy

Unprotection: Not even a policy (see MfD), and no vandalism in history, so unclear why this is protected. Even if it were a policy, protection violates WP:PGCHANGE and WP:EP. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 00:44, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
