"The Retreat" is the seventh episode of the American television series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, based on Marvel Comics featuring the character She-Hulk. It follows Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk, a lawyer representing super humans. The episode is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. It was written by Zeb Wells and directed by Anu Valia.

Tatiana Maslany stars as Walters, alongside Jameela Jamil, Josh Segarra, Ginger Gonzaga, Jon Bass, Benedict Wong, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Tim Roth. Valia joined the series by December 2020 to direct multiple episodes.

"The Retreat" was released on Disney+ on September 29, 2022.

Production

Development

In August 2019, Marvel Studios announced that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was being developed for the streaming service Disney+.[1][2] By December 2020, Anu Valia was hired to direct three episodes, including the seventh.[3][4] Executive producers include Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Brad Winderbaum, in addition to lead director Kat Coiro, and head writer Jessica Gao.[2] The seventh episode, titled "The Retreat",[citation needed] was written by Zeb Wells,[5] and was released on Disney+ on September 29, 2022.[citation needed]

Casting

The episode stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk, Jameela Jamil as Titania, Josh Segarra as Augustus "Pug" Pugliese, Ginger Gonzaga as Nikki Ramos, Jon Bass as Todd, Benedict Wong as Wong, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Mallory Book, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky / Abomination.

Filming and visual effects

Filming occurred at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia,[6] with Valia directing the episode,[4] and Doug Chamberlain serving as cinematographer.[7]: 1 

Visual effects for the series were created by Digital Domain, FuseFX, Soho VFX, Trixter, Wētā FX, and Wylie Co.[8]

Marketing

A QR code was included in the episode that allowed viewers to access a free digital copy of. After the episode's release, Marvel announced merchandise inspired by the episode as part of its weekly "Marvel Must Haves" promotion for each episode of the series, including.

Reception

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports a XX% approval rating with an average rating of XXX/10, based on XX reviews.[9]
