The Hong Kong dollar is the official currency of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region within the People's Republic of China. Under the Basic Law of Hong Kong and the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984, Hong Kong retains autonomy with respect to currency issuance.

The Hong Kong dollar is issued by one of four banks in Hong Kong under the supervision of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Since the 1980's, the Hong Kong dollar has been pegged to the United States dollar.
