Nero Wolfe is a 1977 TV film adaptation of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe novel The Doorbell Rang. Thayer David starred as Nero Wolfe, gourmet, connoisseur and detective; Tom Mason [1] costars as Archie Goodwin, Wolfe's assistant. Written and directed by Frank D. Gilroy, the made-for-TV movie was intended as the pilot for a weekly series,[1] but was shelved after Thayer David's death in July 1978. Nero Wolfe was finally broadcast December 18, 1979, as an ABC TV late show.[2]
