In 2003, Starrett City changed its name to the Spring Creek Towers. It has eight "sections." Each section has several buildings, its own field(s), recreational area (jungle gym, park, handball court, basketball court, etc.) and it's own garage for the residents in that section. These sections are Ardsley, Bethel, Croton, Delmar, Elmira, Freeport, Geneva, and Hornell. Each building has between 11 and 22 floors, with 8 apartments on most floors. There is one elementary school, and one elementary school. The nearest high schools, Canarsie and South Shore, are located in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Starrett City is known to residents of Brooklyn as a very diverse neighborhood. With its many grassy fields, Fresh Creek, and Spring Creek Towers Shopping Center, it is its own community unlike most in Brooklyn, and in New York City.
