Versus is a Japanese action/gore movie with a strong cult following both in Japan and in the US. The film is very violent, though its popularity is probably just as much due to the strange sense of humor pervading most of the movie, and the sometimes comically bad acting.

In the film, several Japanese mobsters are dispatched to pick up an escaped convict in a place called the "Forest of Ressurection," where the dead have recently acquired a somewhat unnerving habit of rising and attempting to slay the living (see Zombie). The convict they are sent to retrieve turns out to have a strange destiny involving repeated reincarnations of himself and two other people throughout history.

By traditional movie standards, "Versus" would most likely not rate very well, primarily due to what might be called uneven pacing.
