National rugby tournament of New Zealand, currently consisting of three divisions. Each division has a promotion/relegation system where the first placed team in one division is given the chance to be promoted to the division above them.

The NPC current (2004) divisions consist of:


Division One:

  • Auckland
  • Canterbury
  • Wellington
  • North Harbour
  • Southland
  • Taranaki
  • Otago
  • Northland
  • Bay of Plenty
  • Waikato

The current champion is Auckland.

Bottom placed Northland defeated Division Two winners Hawkes Bay and thus remain in Division One.


Division Two:

  • Hawkes Bay
  • Nelson Bays
  • Counties
  • North Otago
  • Manawatu
  • Malborough
  • Thames Valley
  • East Coast
  • Mid Canterbury

The current champion is Hawkes Bay.

Hawkes Bay were defeated in the Division One playoff against bottom placed Northland, and thus remain in Division Two for 2004.


Division Three

  • South Canterbury
  • King Country
  • Wanganui
  • Poverty Bay
  • Horrowheua Kapiti
  • Wairarapa Bush
  • Buller
  • West Coast

The current champion is Wanganui.
