I did play soccer with the Miami freedom I was the youngest player ever signed in 1990 I have my apsl contract and programs after the 5th game I was #16. but there is the chance to find if he was american, for example asking it at an american embassy or the embassy will say it isn't possible find if he was american? I notice you changed my edits from American “association football” to "soccer." What Wiki policy/protocol stipulates we must confine our diction, to "soccer." This debate will never resolve and will continue. I read your suggestion, although I don't agree. Saashaw, I added in your comment to me here. This is my response. It's not a policy/protocol, but more standard use of words. In the United States and Canada, the sport is known as soccer. In Europe, more typically "football" or "association football". So when dealing with U.S. or Canadian teams and players, we usually use the local terms. This isn't a matter of "free speach", nor is it a matter of my understanding, but it is the common use of the language. Finally, if I don't revert your edits, then they will most likely be reverted by any number of other people who have commonly agreed to use the term "soccer" for U.S./Canadian players. Thanks. Mohrflies, Response - One of the most prestigious cups, Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football is held annually by clubs that exist within North, Central and Caribbean nations. We still use the word "Association Football.” Many Americans who truly follow the game refer to the sport as "Association Football among themselves. When we speak to those who aren't so aware of the game, then we use the commonly used vernacular, "soccer." It's purely a matter of re-educating the masses, what better platform should we use, but Wikipedia. Let's start educating people on using the correct name for one of the greatest sports on the planet. The continental governing body CONCACAF, use the name “Association Football.” There are many reports indicating more and more MLS clubs will start to focus on winning the CONCACAF Champions League Cup, more so than the MLS Cup, because it's more prestigious and visible to the “Association Football” world. Mohrflies, The word soccer presents itself as ambiguous. You'll notice the current redirection when you type the word soccer back to " Association Football." Why not change the word Association Football to redirect to soccer while you're editing American players, who play for English Football teams. Clint Dempsey plays English Football, not American so called "soccer." Fulham is an English Football team, not a soccer team. He doesn't refer to the sport as soccer, unless he's speaking to an American, who has no clue to the real name football. Clint is definitely more of an authority on football than you and I. Please leave the name.

Hi Mohrflies, I think we missunderstood eachother on that article. To begin with, I was unnaware you had been in contact to a very stupid IP ([[2]]) just earlier on this same article. We even discussed the guy on Footy Project discussion, here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#1991_European_Cup_Final. I think that coincidentally we had similar edits on this article and with your previous experience with that guy, you automatically reverted me. That guy was being simply stupid, but I do have many experience around that issue.

I was going trough some articles about Serbian players in USA. It all basically started because of Miloš Stojčev and if you notece from the articles revision history edit sumaries, I was having right the oposite situatiuon on that one, so I hope by this, and by looking to my general contributions, you can see I am in no way some one sided blind nationalist.

Now, regarding the Stanisic article, I think you wrongly mentioned your awarness of the ethnic hateriot there, because it doesn´t have to do in anything to the case in this article. Actually, it was rather the Serbs the ones that were fighting for Yugoslavia until the end, and the ones that enjoyed Yugoslavia, and had its country named still Yugoslavia when others already didn´t. So, of all nationalities, actually the Serbs are the most likely to be the most accptable ones of all to be named "Yugoslav" (or "Yugoslavian" as you put. The problem is not that at all. The problem is, and that is why I mentioned you to observe other Yugoslav football biographies, is because all footballers from Yugoslavia doesn´t say "Yugoslav footballer" but allways its nationality. See for exemple the list of all players of Yugoslav national team: Category:Yugoslavia international footballers. All of them were Yugoslav, right? Even more than Stanisic, because they even represented Yugoslavia at national level. But pick any one of them and see how it says in the lede. So? In 99% we are using their nationality, using "Yugoslav" just for few that have mixed nationalities, or confused. And there is nothing "mixed" in Stanisic case: he was ethnically Serb, born in SR Serbia inside Yugoslavia, in its capital Belgrade. I was even having doubts about using simply American for him, because he represented United States at national level, but if you use anything else, "Serbian" wouyld be much more apropriate over "Yugoslav" one. I´m saying this because of the reason that is that way how is done for Yugoslav footballers. And you can check other former countries of different nationalities, and you´ll see it happend also. It doesn´t mean he was Serbian citizen (of current Serbia), but it means he was Serbian nationality. And it is used only in that lede sentence, because the rest you got it right, about country of birth not being the curent country, but if prior to 1991, its Yugoslavia, so that part is good.

So I hope you understand now why I was correcting that in that way, and not because I simply wanted to. And beleave me, if someone fights constantly correcting Yugoslkav players nationalities and correct country of birth, well, that is me.

But you said OK, then you shouldn´t have said it. It is not only Yugoslav sportsman, all cases from former Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and URSS are donne this way, check it yourself. If you think that is wrong we should open a wide discussion on this somewhere where all could participate, in the meantime I do as the standard for those countries seems to be. It is not actually the ethnicity as you refer (not like African-American Woods), it is rather a case for this multi-national federations that in meantime ceased to exist. Serbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, they all existed within the federations. There is a difference. I personally don´t have a view on this, but I just defend it now because for 3 years I have been doing things that way because I was told that was the practice for these countries. It was a compromise and consensus made following this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All-time BYU Cougars men's soccer roster. Basically, it was felt that the lists were too much considering they were for amateur teams, and should be deleted, whereas I argued they were very important for career tracking of players. The compromise was to delete any list involving a team which had never played at a professional level, but to move the data into my user space where it could be kept for archival purposes and so that editors working on articles on players who had played at that level during their career could find the information through the redlinks and the "what links here" function. I don't agree, and would prefer the pages be kept, but consensus is consensus, so... JonBroxton (talk) 18:34, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

However, the article seems to contain a few errors. The article does not contain in-line citations, and so doesn't follow Wikipedia style guidelines.

The standard is to use their FIFA 'citizenship', not any other citizenship(s) they may hold. He only ever played for the US National Team. For soccer purposes, he's an American
