We're number one!

Google the word "tarot" and this Wikipedia article is at the very top now! It used to be that this article was in third place when doing that search but now it's in first placeSmiloid (talk) 19:26, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spread section needed

Just like wiki has poker, rummy... we should a section on the way that the cards are used. Example: Three Card Tarot Spreads, Five Card Tarot Spreads, Nine Card Tarot Spreads, Celtic Cross Tarot Spreads, Large Tarot Spreads, Shape-Based Tarot Spreads,..and so on. icetea8 (talk) 04:10, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

spreads will be put here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot_reading#Spreads icetea8 (talk) 12:24, 1 March 2011 (UTC) We have sections on how tarot cards are used. Tarot cards are not only used in tarot spreads. Like poker and rummy, tarot is also a game and we have articles on how the tarot games are played. See French tarot for an example. There is a section on spreads in the tarot reading article. Your comments should be on that article.Smiloid (talk) 10:46, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why the reference to Jung?

Why is there a reference to Jung? I would have thought his collective works were more notable for how infrequently they mention the Tarot, and they would almost certainly contain more references to the I Ching. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 23:42, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, having just looked at the article on the I Ching, the only reference there to Jung is in the list of books at the end! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 23:45, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Origin

Didn't the tarot cards originate in Ancient Egypt? Galaxywarrior (talk) 19:57, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. That was a story invented by Antoine Court de Gebelin before Egyptian hieroglyphs were deciphered, and even before the Rosetta stone was found. The basis of his claim was pretty much 'no one at this time knows much about Egypt, and I think Tarot sounds like Egyptian even though I know nothing about the language.' Ian.thomson (talk) 20:18, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Simply considering the large number of cards, there nevertheless seems to be a connection to the Lewis chessmen, indicating an earlier origin, going back to the Norsemen of 1200 AD. If there is any kind of divinatory use to the pieces (as no chessboard was found), it appears that one probably predates the other. Dexter Nextnumber (talk) 22:01, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

pop culture sections

The pop culture sections of all Tarot card pages need to be completely reviewed and revamped; a few games are referenced based on a few fans that contributed with no selection made for relevance or notability. Tarot has been popular for centuries; there'll never be an exhaustive list of references, and no one wants me to add "In the game The Fool's Errand, the Queen of Cups is found in a palace and associated with a word puzzle." for every single Tarot card (which is what someone's done for The Binding of Isaac). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.36.179.34 (talk) 07:52, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the entry regarding the Homestuck Tarot deck to reflect the actual creator and organizer of the deck. It was pitched and organized by Tera Careccia and approved by Andrew Hussie to be included as part of the Seer Pak for the Homestuck Kickstarter. I've also included a reference link to credit for the project creator and the contributing artists. 72.208.122.54 (talk) 06:13, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

History

I think the first four paragraphs in the history section should be erased, because they are a deep description of the playing cards history, not particularly about tarots: it should be better put in the article on playing cards. I would substitue them with a sentence about the fact tarots originally used the italian suits. Lele giannoni (talk) 15:43, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's been a while since I've logged on here. It does seem that many of the paragraphs are beyond the scope of TarotSmiloid (talk) 07:39, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a claim extant that the 1735 work "The Square of Sevens" is, in fact, a literary hoax: [[1]] Quadibloc (talk) 03:12, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
