Dim and recent past

Remember your query about Progsofts seeming to be editing about both NBA Loans Group and a SA company at the same time? Thanks for that. I've added a note to their user page pointing them out as being a sock of a sock of Morning277. That SA stuff was a several months deleted article they were using as a template. There's only one real way they would have had a copy of it.... Could be an idea if you see that sort of thing again to search for the title that it would have had (= the company name...). You won't see the article, but if it's long deleted - and by someone else who's blocked - an admin should look into it. Peridon (talk) 20:15, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I figured something like that was going on (user using his copy of a deleted article as a template for a new article). I didn't search into the deleted article deep enough to know it was part of the Morning277 sock farm problem, but I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thanks WikiDan, I appreciate it. :) MajesticWriter (talk) 23:20, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. Sorry for the rocky start. You might consider the WP:Adopt-a-user program to have an experienced editor mentor you through the beginning. And you needn't despair about your ATL article being deleted just yet. You have seven days to find sources for it, and if that doesn't work, and you find sources in two weeks instead, you can always re-create it with the new sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 23:27, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tim O'Keeffe

I take your point re the legalities of the website concerned. Is there a way I can put this article up again where it wont be deleted? Bare in mind that that website page has the most comprehensive history of the player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sraith de fanatic Ireland (talkcontribs) 22:42, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can rewrite the page in your own words, using the website your previously copied as a source. However, since that site is associated with the team that O'Keeffe played (or was it coached?) for, you'll want to find other independent sources as well. Good luck. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:29, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok well the book I had put in as a source is about the only other outlet for information on O'Keeffe. How about I redo it and send it to you first? I dont want to go to the trouble of posting it only to be deleted again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sraith de fanatic Ireland (talkcontribs) 18:47, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than sending it to me, why not create it through the Articles for Creation process? Follow the directions at that page to create a new draft at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Tim O'Keeffe, with the proper template for an AFC submission. The article will then be reviewed by any one of a number of people who regularly review the AFC submissions. (Note -- this process can often be quite backlogged. After you create the submission, you can ping me again and if I have time, I'll take a look.) Good luck! Feel free to come back with any further questions. I can't add citations because I don't know where you got your information. That's for you to do. In general, though, what you have written is not an encyclopedia article, but would be more appropriate for a business or IT trade journal. Its purpose seems less to inform people about an existing technology than to exhort them to adopt a new technology. While that is a worthwhile communication, it is not the purpose of Wikipedia. You may wish to try submitting your article to one of the major IT journals instead. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:40, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your points in order:
  1. I have no relationship to the Senator. I'm a software engineer living and working in New York and could really not care less about Nigerian politics.
  2. Whereas this is a free website to which anyone can contribute information, it is not an anarchy. There are rules and guidelines, and all users are expected to conform to them.
  3. Yes, there is a problem with that (feeling like having your own page). Please read the Wikipedia policy on content forking. Basically, you don't get to create your own page about a topic just because you don't like what the existing page says. If you have new facts (which can be verified) about the topic that should be addressed, add them to the existing article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:05, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Multiway data analysis

Thanks for your recent editing in respect of the article "Multiway data analysis" when I a new writer on wiki. Also I am struggling in writing an article titled "AVESTA computing issues" (recommended changing to Automation issues of accounting). May be I am receiving diversity of comments of the subject matter so I have to change the article very frequently in order to fit for different comments. When I am reviewing the log records, I am feeling impression of the version changes look like Hong Kong "typhoon signal 10". Hope you can help me to improve the articles in a way that can be accepted by most of participants. I want the read know issues of automation is not that merely attributed to spreadsheet tool or non-spreadsheet tools. ThanksMgt88drcr (talk) 02:39, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for the assist on multiway data analysis. Based on the available literature, this appears to be a notable topic worthy of inclusion at Wikipedia. Unfortunately, I do not feel the same about your AVESTA computing issues article. There is already an article about accounting software, and perhaps there may need to be an article about accounting automation, but your article is not it. It is too much of a "how-to" guide, which is not what Wikipedia is about. I have added my !vote for delete at its AFD discussion.
As a side note, I notice that your grasp of English is not the best, and I suspect that you are writing English as a second language. You might do better editing the Wikipedia in your own native tongue. There are Wikipedia versions in almost every language on earth. The complete list is here. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:37, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The phase "Multiway Processing" is part of my everyday life. When I planned to write the second article, I searched on this phase but finally adopted Multiway data analysis. Surprising there are a lot of researches working on this area, also surprising that I cannot find similar researches specialize in finance and accounting. I will try to invite some professors to conduct relevant researches.

Your suggested phase "Accounting automation" is a good idea. 3 years ago I was frequently using the phase "Accounting process automation" in business practice. In sometime later, I will rewrite this article. However, it is appreciated if you would help to remove all suspected "how-to" paragraphs so I can learn through this amendment.Mgt88drcr (talk) 13:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

English is my second language but I am seldom writing in native language (i.e. speaking in Cantonese, writing in English). I will try to improve my written English despite I shall spend time to learn and practice of speaking in Mandarin. Mgt88drcr (talk) 13:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is a Cantonese Wikipedia, but I understand your desire to communicate in English. I shouldn't worry too much about the grammar issues; there are always WikiGnomes like myself around to fix things up. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:31, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

XBRL

Want to learn the nature of how-to. Have a read on this article, feeling this is a how-to article. Am I right?Mgt88drcr (talk) 14:29, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No. Although there is information in the XBRL article about how XBRL works, that information serves primarily as an example of the concept. The difference between that article and yours is that yours included a fair amount of language of the "you should do this" variety. I believe you have been addressing that, but I still think the article is a too broad and scattershot to be useful. There does not appear to be a clear focus, but rather a general "let me put down every thought I have about this topic, and maybe a logical organization will present itself". That logical organization does not yet appear to have presented itself. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:48, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AVESTA computing issues and original research

ok, I will try to improve this on continuing basis particular to remove something like "you should do this". In fact the original focus at the beginning of writing is so called six A-V-E-S-T-A computing issues now I cannot work in this ways when some commentators claim that this is constituted original research. Now these computing issues become individual examples within the big pictures of the Accounting process automation. However, the whole article are focus on the titled Accounting process automation, there are two competition forces I have not yet clearly mentioned in the article. They are 1) driving force for evolving advanced technology of automation and 2) driving force for more extended expectation and scope of automation. The winner of the competition is highly depend on the rate of changing for internal and external environment of organizations. Need to obtain more evidence from existing literature when I don't think only me can have this insight. But the winner in the past shall be attributed to software providers of spreadsheet tool and non-spreadsheet tools when users are struggling moving amongst them due to reducing useful life of these softwareMgt88drcr (talk) 16:04, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, the English in the above request is a bit muddled and hard to sort out. You mention that your initial focus for this article was "A-V-E-S-T-A computing issues", but I have no idea what "A-V-E-S-T-A Computing" is. Is it a company? Is it a computing paradigm? Is it something else? Whatever it is, you appear to have shifted the focus of the article to cover the field of accounting process automation as a whole. So then you move on to discuss two competition forces (a phrase I don't necessarily understand), including:
  1. "driving force for evolving advanced technology of automation"; and
  2. "driving force for more extended expectation and scope of automation"
Both of these phrases are somewhat generic and, like much business jargon, largely devoid of any real meaning, so it is impossible to assess whether there is any point in actually investigating these two forces further. However, you go further to indicated that it is your own assessment that has identified these two forces, in which case your article is based, at least in part, on original research. Finding sources that verify your own conclusions is not really what Wikipedia wants. Instead, we need to find sources that have actually arrived at those conclusions on their own, in published (and preferably peer-reviewed) publications. The last phrase or your comment ("But the winner in the past shall be attributed to software providers of spreadsheet tool and non-spreadsheet tools when users are struggling moving amongst them due to reducing useful life of these software.") appears to be largely meaningless, so I will not respond.
In general, muddled and incomprehensible English aside, what is needed is evidence that there is general agreement in the published literature about the issues involved in migrating a business to an automated accounting process. If this article is simply your perception of the issues involved, then the article is original research, no matter how well your perceptions are cited. It's original research because your perceptions might be incomplete, or might be taken out of context, etc. We need evidence that the migration process has been the subject of significant research, and then we can write an article based on that research. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:28, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments so the article shall not be extended to cover those points and moving to this direction. Next step waiting a native English speaker to rewrite the whole article based on this edition (he said that he can completed this on next week). And I plan to collect and read more research and business papers of the subject matter to obtain more consensus information relevant for further fine tune of the content in the right direction.Mgt88drcr (talk) 23:15, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Without reliable sources, the article has not demonstrated the notability required to remain on Wikipedia. Conforming my bio

Hi Dan, I recently tried to create and post bios of myself and the movies I have contributed visual effecs work to, over the course of my career. I am credited thru IMDB but am not sure it IMDB constitutes a verifiable source and if so,how to link it. Also, I am listed alternately as "Chris Christman", or Christopher Christman.

Some of my existing profiles (IMDB) : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1260330/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

Linkedin: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/christopher-e-a-christman/1/312/64

Email: chris@christman.com

Any practical examples you can point me to or provide would be great. Thank you in advance. Take care

=Chris Christman

Chris, unlike those other sites where one is encouraged to create a profile for oneself, that is not the case at Wikipedia. We require that subjects of articles here be notable, as evidenced by significant coverage in independent sources. IMDb, LinkedIn, etc, are not considered reliable or significant. You'd need to show evidence that your work has been noted and covered in independent media, such as trade journals and the like. Unfortunately, for the majority of people working in the trenches of the film industry like yourself, such significant coverage is not common, so it is unlikely we will have reliable sources to verify any of the information in your bio, and therefore it is not likely to be allowed to remain. Bush School

Hello WikiDan61. Thanks for being on top of keeping Wikipedia of the utmost quality! I want very much to contribute and add to the knowledge on the site and I feel that I have some accurate things to add about the Bush School. I want to proceed with caution as I do not want to trip over or break any rules so please help me to understand how to go about properly editing the page for the Bush School safely.

I am eager to add to and correct out dated information on the page as the warning at the top of the page that it is written like an advertisement concerns me as it is a not for profit organization.

I have to admit I am a little confused about why there is an issue with the mission statement. It is taken from the school website and I notice that a similar school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_B._Johnson_School_of_Public_Affairs#Mission) also has a mission statement on their Wikipedia page that appears to be "approved". Maybe it is because I forgot to add a reference at the bottom? I do agree that the page as is sounds a bit biased so I want to go in and clean that up. It just seems that my first step is in the wrong direction.

Please direct me to any editing guides or best practices that I may have missed on how to edit the Wikipedia page of an organization.

Thanks for your time!

If you'll read the essay WP:MISSION, you'll see why Mission Statements are a poor idea. In general, every organization has one, and in general they are written in broad platitudes that rarely help the reader know anything more about the organization, and the are (somewhat by definition) self-serving and promotional. Now, while it is a fine thing for an organization to define a mission statement and to communicate that mission statement to its customers, investors, donors, etc., all of that falls under the realm of self-promotion, and has no business at Wikipedia. If other articles also include a mission statement, that is a matter of improvement for those articles, not a reason for this article to include one.
Since you are eager to help write about the school, I suggest you read up on Wikipedia's policies of neutrality and verifiability as well as the copyright violation guidelines. In a really tiny nutshell:
  • write in your own words, using other websites as sources of information, but not of actual content;
  • keep your writing neutral, avoiding any attempts to promote the school or "make it sound good";
  • make sure you have a reliable source for any information you add, especially information that is likely to be challenged.
I think you'll notice that, since you contacted me, Cindamuse (talk · contribs) has done some excellent work in cleaning up the article. If there is more to do, perhaps you can contact her and work collaboratively toward a better article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:42, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!

Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.

Zanane Rajsingh

Hi Dan, it might be true that Zanane's achievements may still not make it to wikipedia page as of now. But his new film It's Tomorrow will be having a global theatrical release and the film will be announced soon in 7 different countries and all over the world in media. It will be great if you can give a time of 10 days and you shall see the newspaper article links on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zanane Rajsingh (talkcontribs) 17:32, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and cannot include articles based on what may or may not happen in the future. Given that It's Tomorrow has not even begun filming yet, and that no individual associated with the project appears to have any particular notability, there is no way of knowing whether the film will become notable or not. Even if it does, it may well be Rajsingh's only notable accomplishment, in which case (per WP:BLP1E) the best we could hope for would be a redirect from his name to the article about the film. But that would only be after the film has proven its own notability, which it has not yet. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:36, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CCIS

Hello, I created a page and it was deleted with a message: Please do not use Wikipedia to promote any entity I agree, but I have reviewed my text and I could not find any promotional text. Please help me to resolve this. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by KhalidCalgary (talkcontribs) 05:15, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Phrases such as
The success of CCIS is, in large part, due to the over 70 programs they offer at 6 locations throughout Southern Alberta.
are non-neutral and can be considered promotional. Wikipedia strives to maintain a neutral tone. Also, the inclusion of mission and vision statements is discouraged because they are usually broad generalizations that don't really offer any insight into the real operations of the organization, and again, are generally self-promotional.
I have edited Calgary Catholic Immigration Society to address these concerns, but the issue of sourcing still remains. You have relied entirely on the organization's own publications, rather than any reliable, third-party sources. Please see if you can find any of those to help bolster the notability of the organization. Without reliable third-party sources to verify the information in the article, it might well be deleted. Hi WikiDan61,

I'm trying to update the Blue Ant Page as it is out of date and you keep reverting the changes. I'm new to editing on Wikipedia, so perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but just trying to put the most current, relevant info there so it's accurate. Not sure how to keep those changes I keep making, but please help with any advice! If you check out the boiler on this press release it shows the current info: http://blueantmedia.ca/2013/12/cottage-life-is-ready-to-ring-in-the-new-year-with-four-new-exclusive-series/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikki903 (talkcontribs) 20:18, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In updating the page, you are adding promotional language (Blue Ant Media ... creates engaging content...) and removing material that is cited to reliable sources. If the facts that have been cited are no longer true, please provide a reliable source for that information. Just because the information does not conform to the presentation story you'd like for your company, that doesn't mean you get to remove content that is reliably sourced and replace it with content that has no reliable sources. You can ask for a deletion review, but I wouldn't bother.
  1. You wrote an article about yourself,
  2. that was highly promotional,
  3. and showed no indication of how you meet the criteria for inclusion,
  4. which you had created so many times previously that you got blocked for it, and finally
  5. you violated Wikipedia policy about creating multiple accounts to avoid blocks to recreate it.

As a passing administrator, I've looked at it and I can't see any good reason to undelete. If some claim to notability can be made, maybe. Being a "budding Social Worker and Public Health Adviser' isn't enough for me, and "He is a much acclaimed journalist also" is far too vague without proof in reliable independent sources WP:RS. Who acclaims him, and where? By the way, it wasn't deleted as promotional, but as not notable and for being created by a sockpuppet (or meatpuppet) of a blocked user. Peridon (talk) 17:34, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Making an omelette without breaking egos...

Not nonsense. It's coherent, and even though it might be a load of balls that's what counts. Nonsense is 'ytrtyryt oiu666trrdfgfgggfgf' or 'tecumseh gatling fortuitously pigeon sideways in rabbit blue'. I've retagged it as G11 promotion. And it's gone already... Peridon (talk) 17:26, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've had the same argument with others at various times. And if the article contained any meaningful text, I'd have found a different criterion for deletion. But the article appeared to be little more than a random stringing of words together, somewhat along the lines of your second example. Some groupings of words could have been wrangled to make sense, but overall, there was no amount of cleanup that would have resulted in a coherent article. However, I have no arguments with your change of criterion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:31, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To pass (or do I mean fail?) the nonsense test, it must be bad enough to be rejected by a surrealist poetry club. Being bollocks isn't in this one. Nonsense here isn't like Edward Lear's stuff - it's total gibberish (or stuff that even a Gibber wouldn't understand), worse than a Google Translate of a Japanese advert. Something like "Still warthogs run deep" isn't nonsense (and it's the title of a book in my collection, even - very funny poetry...). I rarely delete under nonsense, and even less often tag for it. True nonsense (WP style) is rare. Crap is commoner, where the words are coherent but the sense is lacking (a bit like some religious websites...). Peridon (talk) 17:45, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple accounts

Dear Dan, thank you for your message. I have not been using Wikipedia in a while, and I am not sure why when I edited the article it edited under my Serbian Wikipedia account and not the English one. Please let me know how to indicate properly the existence of my two accounts belonging to the same person.Велимир85 (talk) 15:50, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is a template ({{User alternative account}}) specifically for this purpose. So, at the top of User:Velimir85, you would add:
{{User alternative account|Велимир85}}
and at the top of User:Велимир85 you would add:
{{User alternative account|Velimir85}}
That should be sufficient. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:59, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

your reversion seems unfair, WikiDan61. At least you ought to examine some of the edits in serie. Many involve the addition of recent third party articles, from major publications, which give due shrift to the group and its targets. I also edited for content, resituated material in which I thought was a productive way, and more.

Please discuss at Talk:Center for Consumer Freedom. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:34, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the similar tone, grammar, etc., used by these two accounts at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mountain railways special exhibition in the Hünegg Castel (including what might be a couple of WP:NPA violations directed at you), the fact that both accounts were registered hours apart, and that they have no other contributions outside of the scope of this article, it's possible these two editors are the same person. I might be grasping at straws here, and I'm hesitant to open a SPI without more evidence, but I thought I'd mention it, since such a revelation would certainly impact the AfD. --Kinu t/c 17:27, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Angel McCord

Hi WikiDan61, Clearly there is a lot for me to learn about Wikipedia.com Thank you for your input and for clarifying. At my manager's suggestion I worked with him to write the basics about my new career. I would seek your help in allowing my page to remain as my charities are benefited by my voice being stronger, which believe it or not is the reason I have begun an acting career. Frankly the entire notion scares the hell outta me. "Salvation" was in approximately six or seven film festivals, yet as you mentioned none of true note. It did however get into the Dances with Films Festival and premiered at the Chinese theater. "No Tell Motel" did play at Cannes, not sure if that matters as is was not competing. I have a principal role in "Seal Patrol" (Redbox) which comes out February 11th, it was given the "Lion's Gate" stamp when purchased by them for distribution (link below). "No Tell Motel" (Lead), (Netflix, Redbox, iTunes), was the #1 independent horror for redbox in the fourth quarter of 2012. Somaly Mam is a dear friend and former sex slave, we work together to end child sexual slavery in Cambodia, Australia, America, and beyond. I visit Cambodia yearly, with AnnaLynne, and selfishly I might add, as the time with these little survivors (they're quick to correct you if you call them victims of slavery)is healing me. Either way, if you and others feel I should wait, perhaps you're right. If I become someone of note in the worlds' eyes that's great, but frankly, whatever. My major ambition is to help those who do not have a voice, It has been since I was small. Please let me know your thoughts on how to perhaps keep the charity part in, which lends credence to my cause, when would-be donors are googling me. Their donations literally are life and death to the people I speak for. Thanks for your time, and hopefully your help.

My Best,

Angel McCord

Ms McCord,
While it may well be true that your charities will benefit if you have a larger "presence", it is not the role of Wikipedia to provide you that presence. That would be promotion, and it is expressly forbidden at Wikipedia. Also, even if your article is allowed to remain, it will not be yours to control, so while you may wish to have an article that enhances your public image, there is no guarantee that will always be the case. I suggest that you find other avenues to promote your blossoming career, and if, at some point in the future, you have reached the point where there is sufficient significant coverage in reliable sources upon which to build a legitimate article about you, someone independent will almost certainly step up to write it.
As the article has already been nominated for deletion, any arguments you would like to make regarding the matter should be directed to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Angel McCord. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:50, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Hilal Areeha

Hello WikiDan61. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Hilal Areeha, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Just to let you know that educational establishments are not legible for speedy deletion under A7. Please read WP:CD#A7 for the requirements for speedy deletion under notability. If you still believe the article should be deleted, consider AFD or PROD. Stephen! Coming...

I argue that this exclusion only applies to schools that provide actual primary or secondary education (such as grammar schools and high schools), not to music or dance schools. But I suppose we can take it to AFD instead. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:26, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Contest to Speedy Deletion of PiVi & Co

Please explain to me how my article is "promoting" this company. All I am writing about is what apps they have made and a little bit about the apps. I don't believe that this is "unambiguous advertising", as I am just making an article on the "products" of said company, not advertising it. If you can clarify this that would be greatly appreciated.

TheInformativePanda (talk) 20:45, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article consisted solely of a short, non-neutral blurb about the company, and a list of their products. The cincher was the talk page, which included a plea to all editors to assure that if articles were written about the apps, they should link to the company. While that would already be normal practice for a notable company, the specific request for such links smells of an attempt to bolster the notability of the company. If you disagree with the assessment and the subsequent deletion, you are free to contact Coffee (talk · contribs), who actually deleted the article, or to request undeletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:59, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So what you are saying is it was the talk page and what I had put there, that ended up getting it deleted. If I were to change what I had put in the talk page would there have been an issue with the article, as I really don't want to be banned as the deletion of this article added the second deleted article that I had made.

TheInformativePanda (talk) 21:06, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, it wasn't solely the talk page. If that were the case, the article would not have been deleted. The article itself appeared solely promotional. The talk page merely informed me that the article was intentionally promotional. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:08, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To expand: when writing an article about a company, it would be best to start with the history of the company, some indication of their financials, their market impact, etc. The list of products produced by the company, if given at all, should be given low prominence. Since this company appears to be notable almost solely for their FatBooth app, it may well be that the company doesn't merit inclusion at all. (See WP:ORG.) FAQ

is there any way to make a wiki for a class? maybe in my sandbox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nachowo (talkcontribs) 22:41, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a webhost, so making a private purpose wiki wouldn't really be in keeping with its purpose. There are sites that are set up just for that purpose. I would recommend Wikia (http://www.wikia.com). They allow you to set up a private Wiki on any topic you like for you and your classmates to share information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 22:45, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry 'bout dat.

I'm sorry I called you an administrator. I wouldn't wish that on anybody! Seriously though, I sloppily forgot to check who the declining admin was and then after I realized my mistake, a series of edit conflicts just kicked my ass and I wasn't able to fix it before everybody saw it and now I'm HUMILIATED! But anyway, I finally got it. Have a great day! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:48, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem. I wasn't berating you or anyone else for calling me an admin (quelle horreur!!!) but rather clarifying so that the editor who originally asked for help would better understand the situation. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:53, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

I see that Cyphoidbomb incorrectly called you an admin on the help desk. But I also see you've been around quite a while and done quite a bit. Would you be interested in adminship? Note that this is just a thought, I haven't done a through review of your contributions yet. DES (talk) 16:56, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're not the first to ask. I've never wanted the mop for a couple of reasons:
  1. I'm an admitted deletionist, and I like the idea that there is always at least one other pair of eyes looking at the articles I tag for deletion.
  2. I don't always have the time needed to review and research issues thoroughly as I would need to as an admin.
But thanks for thinking of it. Someday maybe, but not today. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:11, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Entirely your choice, of course. As to your point 1, I and a nukber of other admisn follow the "tag and bag" procedure, meaning that I don't delete a page unless some other editor has tagged it (except for blatant attack pages and very clearcut copyvios). If I find a page I think should be speedy deleted, i tag it for anotehr admin to review. And of course, much of my editing is not with my admin hat on, and it is only when acting as an admin that extra attention and research are required. Think about it when you have time, perhaps. (Personally I am a mergist if anything, but more inclusionist then deletionist. Still I have deleted close to 2000 pages, and opined for delete at many AfDs) DES (talk) 20:33, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lomustine

Dear User WikiDan61:

I apologize for the inconvenience. I made the Lomustine edit on behalf of NextSource Biotechnology, LLC. We are an emerging Specialty Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Marketing Company focused on Consolidating, Re-Branding and Launching "Matured & Orphan Drugs." NextSource Biotechnology owns the manufacturing rights of Lomustine CCNU. I was asked by upper management to add more content to the Lomustine's Wikipedia page. I was provided with the information I included in the page; most of the info in the FDA fact sheet was provided by us and it is available in the package insert we include with our medicine. Although most of the information I included in the edits is available in the FDA fact sheet, the idea was to make it easier to find since not everyone is inclined to go to the FDA website to look for this information. We thought it will be helpful to make this information readily available on Wikipedia due to the fact that your website is one of the most visited informational sources on the web. All of the information about Lomustine is factual, and we've made sure it was understandable. Please advise if we can move forward with this project. We would like to plan everything in the correct form as we value the integrity and importance of Wikipedia. Best regards,

That graham bennet article

Looking over it-the person you warned did not make the duplicate article but someone else did who was vandalizing it-the guy just put a pointless message like "He is cool" so maybe warn the other user who put that I guess? Wgolf (talk) 19:21, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, WikiDan61. You have new messages at Bleach1983's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi there,

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I am relatively new to Wikipedia, so I've been going through similar pages to see which ones might serve as good templates for what I'm trying to create. In the meantime, I have found additional secondary resources for my article so that it is less reliant on the primary resource of The Wistar Institute website. Please let me know if the changes I've made help. Thanks!

Notability guidelines inquiry

At the top of the page I created is the message "The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for biographies." According to the criteria at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NGRIDIRON he needs to have played in only 1 professional game to be considered notable- he's played professionally for 6 years. He should be considered notable because although the leagues he played in were not listed, they are considered on Wikipedia pages as professional, (not semi-pro, minor league or amateur), and therefore top-level. I have over 20 sources from major newspapers, official league sites and official statistics sites recognizing this. Is there something else required I'm missing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JennySmithwood (talkcontribs) 23:02, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may not have read the guideline carefully enough. WP:NGRIDIRON actually states:
American football/Canadian football figures are presumed notable if they
  1. Have appeared in at least one regular season or post season game in any one of the following professional leagues: the Arena Football League, the Canadian Football League, the National Football League, the third American Football League, the All-America Football Conference or the United States Football League, or any other top-level professional league.
  2. Note: Players who play in minor or semi-professional leagues (such as af2) are not presumed notable unless they meet another criterion, such as notability arising from their college football days.
Kowalyshen has not played in any of those mentioned leagues, but only in a string of semi-professional regional leagues. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 23:09, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are mistaken about that. "The Indoor Football League is a professional Indoor Football league created in 2008 out of the merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football." That was copied and pasted from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indoor_Football_League Why doesn't that fall under "or any other top-level league". It's indoor football like the AFL and professional as even Wikipedia states, not semi-pro. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JennySmithwood (talkcontribs) 23:20, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would also point out that Mr Kowalyshen has a lot of press coverage regardless of whether he otherwise meets notability. DS (talk) 00:00, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. Kowalyshen's article has an impressive number of references, but what few references actually mention him amount to local coverage only. The majority of references do not mention him at all. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 04:40, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion about an image on Wikipedia, Ali

Mr. WikiDan, I want you to help me remove the image that damages Wikipedia's neutrality and add another picture that may looks perfect on the article. Thank You!
