About the pronunciation

Is there a stress in Dutch? @Mr KEBAB: LoveVanPersie (talk) 16:54, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@LoveVanPersie: You mean does Dutch have phonemic stress? Sure. In this case, it's initial in both words (Bemelmans and probably most if not all other surnames ending with -mans are stressed like that, see e.g. Frans Timmermans). Mr KEBAB (talk) 17:03, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr KEBAB: Is there a secondary stress in Bemelmans? LoveVanPersie (talk) 17:28, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@LoveVanPersie: I assumed there wasn't, but I'm not sure. Mr KEBAB (talk) 17:39, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr KEBAB: "Certain prefixes and suffixes will receive secondary stress" in Dutch phonology. Is -mans a certain suffixes? LoveVanPersie (talk) 18:14, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@LoveVanPersie: It is a suffix. Perhaps Geert Booij's Phonology of Dutch would answer your question, I don't know. Mr KEBAB (talk) 18:18, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mr KEBAB: Thanks! LoveVanPersie (talk) 18:20, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
