The SS-N-16 Stallion is a missile. Like its smaller brother the SS-N-15 Starfish, this Russian missile is launched from a large torpedo tube, 650 mm in diameter, then boosted to the surface. It is also able to be launched by surface ships, from special launch tubes. After firing, it floats to the surface (submarine version only), and the solid fuel rocket motor ignites. The weapon then flies on a ballistic trajectory until over its target. The payload, typically a Type 40 torpedo or a 200 kiloton of TNT nuclear warhead is then released, and falls to the surface, normally retarded by a small parachute. This missile is carried on a variety of Russian submarines, and some surface ships, and is intended as an anti-submarine weapon (when equipped with the torpedo, or as a weapon of mass destruction, capable of killing all enemy units (including submarines).
