Theodor Bastard is a Russian musical band from St Petersburg. It plays experimental music in which combines elements of trip-hop, neofolk, ambient, darkwave.
History
The band has been created in 1996 by Fyodor Svoloch[1]. Later more members joined the group among them a vocalist Yana Veva who also participated in the project Shiva in Exile. The band uses name Theodor Bastard from 1999. At the beginning they played mostly electronic, industrial, noise music but by the beginning of 2002 the style of Theodor Bastard started to crystallize gradually, previously balancing on the edge of acid gospel/world music/trip-hop. Harsh noises yielded to European gothic music and ethnical music of Oriental countries. In 2004 Theodor Bastard recorded album Pustota ("Emptyness") which was positively rated by the critics and made the band more famous among music fans.
Music of Theodor Bastard creates mystic, archaic, floating atmosphere, vocalist Yana Veva often sings in idiosyncratic language[2]. The band performs in various concerts in Russia also in the international festivals like Mėnuo Juodaragis[3].
