The Kyiv Independent is an English-language Ukrainian media outlet.

In 2021, Kyiv Post staff were engaged in disputes with the newspaper's new owner over editorial independence. The owner, Adnan Kivan, ultimately shut the newspaper and fired the newsroom staff.[1][2] Following this, the Kyiv Post's former editorial team established The Kyiv Independent. This was done with the help of an emergency grant from the European Endowment for Democracy.[3] Crowdfunding has since been the source of funding for the outlet.[2]

They have been noted for their coverage of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[4][5][6] Following the invasion, the outlet saw their Twitter followers increase by over a million.[7]

As of 28 January 2022, Oleksiy Sorokin is the outlet's current chief operating officer and political editor.[8]
As of 8 February 2022, Olga Rudenko is the editor-in-chief.[3]
