About us

The Embassy’s role is to promote Australia’s interests in Ireland, and build on the extremely warm, friendly and productive relationship between our countries. We also provide consular help and advice to Australians in Ireland, pass on news on upcoming events in Australia and in Ireland, and issue over 1000 Australian passports annually. We are continually looking to highlight the huge range of activities occuring between our two countries all the time – whether visits at the top of government, the growing number of business dealings, or sporting, cultural and educational exchanges. We'd love to hear from anyone that is involved in growing and promoting this amazing relationship or even just to highlight what you or your company is doing that is related to Australia – or if you’d just like to give us some feedback on how we’re doing – don’t hesitate to drop us a line on austremb.dublin@dfat.gov.au

  • There are "unparalleled" opportunities for the next generation of young people to change the world. Technology, AI and Robotics will all play their role. These were the Ambassador's thoughts when he met with Lucas Spicer recently, an International Business Student at Dublin City University. Together they discussed Australia/Ireland relations and areas for cooperation. There was much to talk about!

Have a look - with the Australian Ambassador to Ireland! 🇦🇺 I had the opportunity to interview H.E Gary Gray AO, the Australian Ambassador to Ireland. I would like to say a big thank you to Gary for taking the time and for inviting me to the Australian Embassy. Advice to Students 👩🎓 : He highlights that there are “unparalleled opportunities available for this generation to do good and to help build a better world". He emphasises “that the world is wealthier and more technologically advanced than ever before, providing unprecedented capacity for government planning and positive outcomes.” He further encourages students to leverage these advantages to address global challenges and improve society, drawing on the legacy of figures like T.K. Whitaker, in which he concludes with:  "The opportunities are great, and the ability to positively influence challenges is greater than ever." Economic Ties 📈 : He highlights that although bilateral trade is relatively small, valued at around $5 billion there are areas of specific and considerable interest. Australian investments in Irish infrastructure, led by Macquarie Bank, and notable investments in aero leasing and insurance sectors were highlighted. Conversely, Ireland’s investments in Australian renewable energy projects, particularly in wind and solar, showcase the growing economic collaboration despite differing economic structures and needs stating that "There's a growing increase in investment by Australian infrastructural businesses in Irish infrastructure." Areas of Collaboration 👥 : Several key areas of collaboration were emphasised, including healthcare, renewable energy, and cultural synergies, such as Australia's healthcare system in which relies heavily on Irish doctors and nurses, and Irish investments contribute significantly to Australian renewable energy projects. "We can't run our Australian healthcare system without Irish doctors and Irish nurses," he emphasised. Additionally, strong cultural ties are evident in sports such as football, rowing, cycling, and hockey in which he states that "The cultural exchanges, especially in sports, help strengthen the bonds between our nations. There's significant cooperation in women's football, men's football, rowing, cycling, and hockey." These collaborations illustrate the deep and multifaceted relationship between the two nations, enhancing bilateral relations and fostering innovation and mutual growth in these critical areas. "These areas of collaboration showcase the depth of our relationship and the potential for even greater cooperation in the future," he concluded. Next up is a conversation with H.E Karen Van Vlierberge, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ireland, in which she talks about the importance of valuable relationships, historical ties between both countries and mutual economic engagement! #VoicesOfLeadership #Student #DCU #Ambassador #Australia #Ireland #Insights #Leadership #Collaboration

In the week following the terrible attacks in Sydney, Australia has received an outpouring of solidarity from across the world. We know the murders were born of mental health complications and we feel deeply for the families who lost loved ones. People with schizophrenia are much more likely to be the victims rather than the perpetrators of violence. These are the thoughts of internationally renowned mental health expert, Pat McGorry and worth bearing in mind as others rush for easy solutions. The Ambassador's letter of thanks to all those who have been in contact was published this week in The Irish Times, Irish Examiner and Irish Independent.

  • Last week, Ambassador Gray welcomed the Goanna’s & Kangaroo’s, a junior and senior touring AFL squads with Wanderers Australia to the Australian Embassy to discuss their tour of Ireland which was coming to an end. A terrific bunch of young aspiring athletes who asked questions about the Ambassador's time here in Ireland, what the embassy does on a daily basis and a variety of other questions about life in Ireland. The group played a selection of International Rules games, playing with a Gaelic football and also an AFL ball. They toured Dublin’s Croke Park, the head of Gaelic sports in Ireland, and explored the West and South Coasts including the Ring of Kerry, Galway, Limerick and Cork. We wish the group the best of luck in the rest of their European tour.

  • Gary Gray AO, Australia’s Ambassador to Ireland visited the Carnegie Clean Energy headquarters in Fremantle over the Christmas break. Company CEO Jonathan Fievez walked Gary through an overview of their cutting-edge clean energy technologies and work in progress at the onshore testing facility and abroad. Ireland’s west coast is blessed with world-class wave energy resources and the visit offered an opportunity to highlight the potential of wave energy to offer a new, indigenous source of clean energy to the Irish grid. We express our gratitude to Carnegie and Jonathan for giving his time to show Ambassador Gray the incredible work being done in this field and we look forward to continued collaboration and the collective pursuit of a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
