Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that the Patel community had contributed immensely to the development of Gujarat and that the development graphs of the state and the community went parallelly.
Shah was speaking after inaugurating a new building of Amin PJ Kadva Patidar Vidhyarthi Bhavan in the Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad. “I want to say something about the Patel community as well today. I am from Mansa and have grown up and got educated in north Gujarat. I have many friends from the Patel community, and especially the Kadva Patel community. I have also been a student of the development stream of communities in the state and the country. How did the communities progress? How did the state progress? How did the country progress? They are all inseparable incidents,” he said.
“Today, I want to say without any doubt that the Kadva Patel community has contributed immensely to Gujarat’s development. If you see the development graphs of Gujarat and the Patel community, they go parallelly. As the Patel community progressed, Gujarat too progressed,” he added.
There are two sub-groups in the Patel community in the state: Leuva Patels and Kadva Patels.
Shah also said the Patel community people possess virtues like studiousness, business acumen, courage and a sense of taking the entire community together.
Shah recalled his college days in Ahmedabad when he used to stay at the hostel of Gujarat University and said the institution was key to winning any election of student politics. The hostel started in 1930 and leaders like Sardar Vallbhbhai Patel too stayed there for many days and held many meetings during the freedom movement, he added.
During his address, Shah also asked the students present to lead their lives with an aim. “Keep an aim in life. If you try to lead a life without aim, time will sway you. If you decide to live your life with an aim, you will sway the time. You must understand this difference. If you decide to have one aim in life, to work hard for it, to walk on a path which is not a short-cut to achieve it, I am confident that you will achieve the aim by getting the optimum level of your capabilities given by God,” the minister added.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel were among those present at the inaugural function.
