Congress seeks withdrawal of fee hike in 13 GMERS medical colleges

Speaking to mediapersons in Ahmedabad, Gohil said, “We demand that the exorbitant fee increase at 13 GMERS medical colleges be withdrawn immediately so that deserving students can fulfil their dream and the shortage of doctors can be reduced to some extent. If the fee hike is not withdrawn in the coming days, NSUI will agitate across the state.”

The Congress alleged that due to the increase in fees parents and students are under financial stress.

On June 28, the state had issued a government resolution, hiking the fee at GMERS colleges by 67 per cent in the government quota and 88 per cent in the management quota for 2024-25. A hike of $ 3,000 was also announced in the NRI quota. In government quota seats, while the annual fee of Rs 3.3 lakh was hiked to Rs 5.5 lakh – an increase of 66.66 per cent, management quota fee was increased from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, an increase of 88.88 per cent.

The party said that GMERS was formed 14 years ago and at that time, the state government had repeatedly announced that doctors will be trained for a lower fee.
