Some official records, furniture and electronic equipment were damaged in a fire that broke out at the Gujarat Pollution Control Boardâs (GPCB) regional office in Jamnagar city on Wednesday. No one was injured since the office was closed.
âA security guard noticed that a spark in the air-conditioner had caused the fire, following which the fire brigade were informed immediately,â said GPCB regional officer (RO) Gaurang Bhatt, adding that the fire was doused within half-an-hour.
Jamnagar Chief Fire Officer K K Bishnoi said that prima facie the fire was started by an electrical short circuit. He added that the fire could have been doused by the GPCB staff using fire extinguishers but the office was closed.
âThe GPCB officials are still assessing the damage caused by the fire,â Bishnoi said, adding that two fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control.
The fire broke out in the first floor of the GPCB office, which is a three-storey building, said the RO. Maintaining that the fire covered two rooms, Bhatt said: âThe fire broke out in the technical section of the office, which houses the chambers of our deputy and assistant engineers.â
The Jamnagar GPCB office has jurisdiction over Reliance Industries Limitedâs oil refinery at Moti Khavdi as well as Nyara Energy Limitedâs oil refinery at Vadinar in the adjoining Devbhumi Dwarka district.
On June 18, 400 students from Jamnagarâs P V Modi School had to be evacuated after a blaze broke out in their campus.
