BMTC bus catches fire. (screen grab from Express video)Bengaluru News Highlights: The engine of a BMTC caught fire near the Anil Kumble circle on Tuesday. Bus numbered F 1235, of route number 144E/11, Koramangala Depot lit ablaze around 9 am. No causalities were reported.
A red alert for very heavy rains has been issued by Dakshina Kannada district administration on Tuesday along with a public advisory stating that schools and colleges will remain inoperative. Incessant downpour in the last 36 hours has brought life at a standstill for the people of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, where 313 people took shelter in eight rescue centers in Honnavar taluk. Several other low-lying areas are also flooded. Meanwhile, vehicular traffic has been restricted in parts of Bengaluru.
In a controversial incident, liquor bottles were allegedly distributed in a programme organised by K Sudhakar , a BJP MP from Chikkaballapura, to celebrate his victory. R Ashoka and other BJP and JD(S) leaders had also taken part in the event, videos of which surfaced online.
